My Story
In 1996 I went to the library to find a book on meditation. I needed to reduce stress. I practiced breathing and yoga postures outside that summer, while the wind ruffled the pages I held in my hand.
By the time autumn came I was a full-time graduate student, working as a live-in college residence hall director, and coping with new, life changing post-viral illness. I had a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and struggled to juggle responsibilities with no energy reserves. I used breathing and yoga techniques for comfort. I found that simple mindful practices helped concentration, mood, and health.
I’m grateful for finding mindful practices at age 22, as they have served me well through decades. I never recovered from post-viral illness. I gained far more diagnoses through the year. I now live with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, post brain injury issues and cervical instability. Migraines, dizziness, and partial joint dislocations are part of everyday life. And I live a happy life! Mindful practices have supported me through all these issues and even a battle with thyroid cancer.
I love teaching the mindful practices that have helped me lead a happy, fulfilling life while managing chronic pain and multiple chronic medical conditions. In addition to the health benefits, these tools help me prioritize to-do lists, cope with sensations, sleep well, and maintain a positive outlook on life! I’m excited to see what these practices can do for you!
